This short scuba course is ideal for those who don’t have the time for the full open water scuba diving licence, the difference is that this is a recognised beginners course that comes with a recognition card, what you learn is valid for 6 months allowing you to dive in open water to a maximum of 12m supervised accompanied by a Instructor

Our pool ‘Try Scuba’ session at our dive resort can be combined with 1 beach dive and this is the best choice for basic divers and safest form for learning to scuba dive as a Beginner.. It is cheaper than taking a full course and can count as the first dive if you wish to upgrade to the full licence. The basic diver course beach option takes around 4 hrs and can be done in the mornings or after lunch, most days of the week between late December and May.

The Basic diver course programme comes with free online e Learning at no additional cost and you can create your own profile and account for free as well as read up on the free course materials before you get to the dive shop for the pool session.
Description
This Basic dive program gives you the opportunity to experience the underwater world, in a safe confined area like a swimming pool and then dive in the ocean without committing to a longer certification course..

Your first open water basic dive will be credited as one of the required training dives If you decide to become certified within six months after completing your Basic Diver program. You then have the option of upgrading to the Scuba diver course 1 day or the Open Water Diver course 2 days
To register for SSI basic diver program, you must be at least 10 years old.
There’s a medical form for any new scuba diving activity: You need to read this form prior to diving for beginners and sign to confirm you have no medical conditions that can affect your safety. If you declare a medical condition on the form you will not be able to dive without signed clearance from a doctor. Do I need to be able to swim to take the basic course?
You don’t need to be able to swim to scuba dive – non swimmers can try scuba diving as a beginner then move to the ocean to dive in open water as a supervised Basic diver.

As a beginner, your instructor will check over your student basic diver registration and medical form and then conduct an interactive briefing that covers the basics of learning to scuba dive. You will learn about breathing and equalization techniques underwater, scuba diving equipment, hand signals used to communicate and techniques for clearing your mask and regulator. Your Instructor will also prepare you for some of the aquatic life you may see during your dive, and tell you how to enter and exit the water safely. If you prefer a free private session please let us know and we can arrange this for you as a 1:1 or with friends or family for small groups at extra cost.
It is natural and normal to feel a little nervous before diving for the first time. Don’t worry! At Phuket Dive Tours, your safety and enjoyment of diving is our first priority.
The training for a fantastic day scuba-diving experience will be provided by our experienced English, Australian, Swedish and French instructors.
Basic diver course is not a certification course it’s a course that recognises that you have completed scuba skills training in a pool and shallow water with the addition of completing open water dives to a maximum depth of 12m.
Basically all entry level scuba diving certifications includes three components
- Knowledge development – Short video.
- SCUBA training lessons in a pool where you learn the basic principles of scuba diving
- Completing open water training dives in the ocean
Basic diver courses are conducted in the swimming pool at our dive resort at Kata Beach you will complete several skills such as clearing water from the mask and clearing the regulator to working on your buoyancy.
Remember that you can simply stand up if you feel uncomfortable during the pool training, we will teach you how to indicate a problem, and how to get our attention if you need anything during the dive.We will emphasize the importance of the buddy system, following the instructor’s directions, and breathing normally at all times.

You will be taught the basic safety requirements, hand signals, and expectations before you enter the water.
The digital learning should be completed before your open water session and your experienced instructor will review this information with you.
Safety and Comfort
You will have the basic equipment configuration you will be using during the in-watersession explained. We will demonstrate the proper position for the mask, and allow you to become comfortable breathing through your mouth while wearing the mask. We will explain how to maintain proper buoyancy control, the benefits of neutral buoyancy, and how to establish positive buoyancy at the surface.
Basic breathing techniques.
- You will learn the basic rules of scuba diving, and that you should never hold their breath.
- We will explain how pressure will increase as you descend, and the effects of squeezes on the sinuses, ears, and mask.
- We will review the proper sequence for equalizing, and what to do if you experience discomfort at any point during the dive.
How to move around underwater underwater.
We will describe the proper process for moving underwater, and how you should use their fins and scuba equipment. If you will be going to deeper water, remember to follow your instructors directions, and to stay in the shallow end until directed otherwise. We will describe how the descents and ascents will be conducted.

Basic diver course Final exam
The final exam is a few questions to check you understand the key principles of diving. – After the confined pool session you will then get to scuba dive in the ocean
After completing the open water dive you will be given recognition for the basic diver that will allow you to dive for upto six months without needing to complete the Pool skills again
Your first dive in the Ocean
Training: Your instructor will give you a briefing on safety and things you will be doing prior to reaching the dive site. At the dive spot you will enter the water with your Instructor together and your Instructor, they will continually supervise you in the water for the 40-50 minutes training session. They will demonstrate several dive skills, which you will then perform yourself. After completing the skills, when you and your Instructor both feel you are ready, you will then have the option to dive in open water.
Diving adventure: This is where things get really exciting – your first open water diving experience!
When you scuba dive as a beginner in the ocean we will describe how the open water training dive will be different from the pool/confined water environment (depth, water temperature, visibility, etc.) Your instructor will explain the importance of proper buoyancy, and how to avoid contacting the bottom or underwater organisms. You will be shown how you should react to underwater life, and that you should look, but not touch.
Equipment used for scuba diving.
Your Instructor will set up and help you put on your equipment. You will enter the water together and your instructor will take you on a personal, guided tour of the fascinating underwater world, highlighting the diverse range aquatic plants and animals, and of course help you stay relaxed and comfortable on your amazing first journey underwater.
