KOH DOC MAI DIVING INFORMATON

Koh Doc Mai dive site is a small Limestone island 10 km West of the Famous Shark Point (Hin Musang), and about 90 mins boat ride from the marina, athis location offer divers some of the best Scuba diving and often part of a 3 dive Day trip boat. Koh Doc Mai has 2 contrastingly different diving sites however both sides offers divers two totally different Dives and can often be completed and circumvented by some divers in 1 full dive. Koh Doc Mai is suitable for divers with experience of drift diving and strong currents, its not suitable for the inexperienced on days of strong currents or High Waves. Doc Mai means flower however there’s not much to warrant this name.

This Dive site features a sloping reef, and and it here you can find Clown fish, Angelfish, Butterfly fish, Marbled grouper, and many many more, as the site is distinctively different from the East side its also a paradise for Underwater photography lovers. Depths range here from 5 to 15m

Imagine a wall bursting with rich sea life: Oyster Clams and invertebrates at every glance, large Moray eel’s, Banded sea crates, Honeycomb grouper and angelfish, macro Photographers will love this side of the Island. Divers who get to explore the Eastern side also get to explore the 2 small caves, the walls and ceiling of the larger cave host many soft corals, best exploring the caves with a torch looking into the smaller cracks for ornate Ghost Pipe fish, the sandy bottom can start at 5m but drops quickly to 26m.

Koh Doc Mai is part of most 3 dive day trips as the first or last dive, and combined with sites such as King Cruiser Wreck, Shark Point, Anemone Reef Phi Phi Islands ( – Koh Bida Nai – Palong Wall.)

The Dive tour leader and Dive boat captain will take the boat to the Diving sites when the current are at its lowest strength, how ever the Luna Phases may dictate that some current may still be present. The maximum depth 31m and visibility can be anywhere from 3m – 20m, currents are mild to Strong, north to south with possible up or down currents. You may want to consider booking a personal private dive guide if you haven’t dived in a while and want to enjoy the dive as this can often be a shorter dive if you are in a large group 1:5 of mixed divers with different levels of diving experience.

Sea Conditions: you can dive Koh Doc Mai dive site during the NE monsoon season (Nov- May) although some days strong winds can make it the only choice to dive in the area, however with a good weather forecast day trips from Phuket are possible most days of the year.
